In November of 1996 I started taking the depo provera birth control shot. It was my first time on birth control, so I asked a lot of questions. I was told there were no side effects, except perhaps a small amount of weight gain, and that my period would stop. The doctor, a woman, commented on how much I would love being on it because I wouldn't have to worry about getting a period. She told me it was completely safe. She said the only thing that would happen is I wouldn't get a period, and I could maybe gain an extra 5 lbs.
Unfortunately for me the doctor was very wrong. Depo-provera was not only not safe, in my body it was pure poison.
For those of you who don't know what depo provera is, it is a birth control method that is in the form of a shot. Instead of taking a birth control pill every day, you get a shot three times a year. You can have the shot in your rear, or your arm. I was given it in both places.
The depo provera birth control shot stops your periods, or at least I was told that it would, and it did mine. However, I have been doing a lot of research and some still get periods while on depo provera. In fact, some never stop bleeding.
I have put this web site up to warn all women of the real danger of the side effects of the depo-provera birth control shots! Depo provera destroyed my life for years for years!!! The side effects of the depo-provera injections caused me to live with a myriad of health problems and was the reason I was eventually diagnosed with a severe case of 'incurable' Fibromyalgia.
Directly below are the side effects I suffered from as a direct result of the depo provera shot I took for a over a year. Following the depo provera side effects, is my personal story of what depo provera did to me. Please let me make it clear before you start to read what happened to me that I let you know I was, before the depo-provera injections, a very healthy individual. Physically active.. yoga daily, ate what I considered a fairly 'healthy' diet, and was a size 3/5. That changed drastically starting as soon as two weeks after my first shot of depo-provera birth control injections...
MY DEPO PROVERA SIDE EFFECTS
- 40lb weight gain (within the first 12 months of my first shot)
- Extreme Excitability, Nervousness (the year on the shot and immediate first year off)
- Panic Attacks, Paranoia (first two years - year on and immediate first year off)
- Shortness of Breath (horrible first two years - year on and immediate first year off)
- Great loss of libido (year on and the first year off)
- Painful intercourse / lack of lubrication (for about two years)
- Lowered immune system (caught every cold and flu bug though was not like that prior)
- Loss of hair (the first year while on the shot)
- Violent headaches (coming from pain at base of skull)
- Extremely sore, stiff, crippled muscles all over body
- Blurry vision - trouble getting my eyes to focus on objects
- Dizziness - inability to bend over without feeling like I would pass out
- Severe neck and shoulder pain
- Breast Tenderness
- Heart palpitations - irregular heart beat
- Chronic sinus and yeast infections
- Concentration and memory problems
- Acne - not (teenager type acne - large boil/cyst like acne)
- Numbness in face and limbs
Immediately, within 2 weeks of my first shot the symptoms of severe migraines and muscle stiffness started. I went back to the doctor who gave me the shot, she said 'no' these were not symptoms, it had to be something else. She sent me to a neurologist, he too told me 'oh no can't be the depo'. He injected me with MORE DRUGS!!! told me it was probably 'stress'... I explained to him I didn't have any stress in my life at all.. in fact it was what I considered a stress free lifestyle. Everything went downhill from there... things got much, much worse. A very long story shortened.. for five years pain got worse, and more symptoms appeared.. from doctor to doctor with no avail. All doctors and their tests telling me the results are 'negative' you are fine. The drugs they started prescribing me for the myriad of symptoms such as antibiotics for such things as the chronic sinusitis (NEVER HAD IT PREVIOUS IN MY LIFE!), caused more problems. The antibiotics for the chronic sinusitis caused severe cases of yeast infections - this duo sinusitis/yeast infections plaqued me for a good solid two/three years. The muscle pain was the worst and never let up. Panic attacks, something I had never had in my life started.. they were debilitating. Pain so severe in my muscles and so 'tense' that I would feel as if I was going to black out if I bent over... it got so bad that I could not bend over to tie my own shoes without starting to black out. I could also not tilt my head back.. for example if I was in a store and was looking to the top shelf it would cause a severe dizziness and sensation as if I was being strangled. My vision began to get very blurry.. though eye tests at the eye doctors would say.. 'nothings wrong'.

With his help and the help of nutritionist Paula DuVall (licensed nutritionist in Valparaiso In who put me on a raw food diet), I reversed all illnesses that doctors in conventional medicine told me was an a severe and incurable case of Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia, CFS.. those are wastebasket diagnosis... they aren't real - don't get me wrong.. the PAIN is real.. but they are not some 'mysterious' incurable disease. They are the result of a completely poisoned and inervated body and it CAN be reversed.. I know because I am living proof!
The simple fact is depo-provera is a drug, a drug that is made up of dangerous chemicals that are foreign to the body. The side effects are so dangerous. You don't have to just live with whatever illness/disease manifests in your body from the depo-provera (or other drug). Do NOT be afraid to leave a doctor if you feel they are not helping you. Do NOT be afraid to tell a doctor NO if they want to put you on an anti-depressant when you KNOW you are not depressed. Do NOT be afraid to trust your instincts. Do NOT listen to doctors in conventional medicine that are lying and saying that depo-provera birth control injections can NOT cause the above systems, because thousands of woman who have been poisoned by these shots will tell you otherwise.
